Maple Grove Radio Club is all about public service, and the most important public service is to make sure your voice is heard. Get out and vote Tuesday if you haven’t already. Do it early so you can make it to our club meeting.
Last week, we got a message on the club voice mail. This person bought a Baofeng for “emergency use”, and then didn’t know what to do with it, so was calling around to see if anybody could help them. I spent some time with them and gave them a few resources. They emailed back a few days later and said they’d been having fun practicing on HamStudy.org and should be ready for our next VE session. All of us can do this- be ready to show your enthusiasm for amateur radio, and help people get started. It’s the best way to help the hobby grow and survive.
Our online Extra license class has gotten a tremendous response. We have 45 people signed up for it, from 6 states! We’ve had 2 sessions so far, and it’s going well. Our online VE sessions continue to be popular. In some ways, perhaps Covid has been good for ham radio. People with nothing to do are staying home and studying.
Everybody stay well, stay safe, and let’s hope we can go back to serving the public soon.
