We’re finally getting back into the swing of things with two great ham radio events this month, and more coming up.
First off is the BikeMS-150. Normally, this is a two-day event from Duluth to White Bear Lake. This year it’s shortened to just one day, on June 12th. We are still looking for a lot of ham radio volunteers. If you’re new to BikeMS, you will be paired with someone experienced who can show you the ropes. As I keep saying, this is a great way to practice public service communications for a good cause. Plus, it’s a lot of fun. There’s a blog post on our website with links to sign up for the BikeMS-150, and The Ride Across MN on July 23rd and 24th. See https://k0ltc.org/ms-bike-rides-2021/
I’m looking forward to field day on June 26th and 27th. This is Amateur Radio’s big party day. Clubs and individual operators across the country set up in a field and practice emergency communications. It’s also an open house, where we reach out to the community to show what we’re capable of. This year, we’re doing this at the Chester Bird Post of The American Legion in Golden Valley. As you may know, we’re starting out a partnership with the post, and this is a great way to raise our visibility.
Also coming up- the Jim Deane Memorial Rice Lake Classic Run, on July 17th, the Antique Car Run on Aug 14th, the Osseo Lions Parade on Sept 11th, and the Twin Cities Marathon on Oct 3rd. These are all great ways to serve the community and play radio practice communicating.
See you at the next meeting on Tuesday June 1st, we’re going to be talking about Field Day preparations.
