It was great seeing everybody at Field Day. It was also a pleasure to see how well we worked together at setting up and taking down the tents, antennas, and stations. I’d like to give special thanks to Carolyn and Roy’s hard work and leadership. And to Ruth and Jim for providing food. It was my bad that I didn’t notice dinner was being served.
There’s a great special event this week that I always look forward to every year- The 13 Colonies Special Event, from July 1st to July 7th. It’s a great way to practice making HF contacts without the pressure of a contest. The event is simple- there will be stations in each of the 13 original colonies, on voice, CW, and digital. Make a contact with as many as you can, if you get all of them you get a “clean sweep”. You don’t need to contact all of them to get a certificate. If we’re lucky, the sunspots that we had two weeks ago will rotate back around and we’ll have great propagation.
Also coming up is the Jim Deane Rice Lake Run on July 16th. Our communications support is always appreciated by the organizers and participants of this event.
The Antique Car Run is August 13th. We need operators that have a mobile radio in their vehicle to travel with the antique cars and call in when there’s trouble. We need net control operators at the halfway point in Buffalo and the finish in New Brighton. And finally, we need someone to back up Terry Thurn, he’s been doing a great job at this for years!
Save the dates- the Osseo Lions Parade is September 10th, and the Twin Cities Marathon is October 2nd.
