Maple Grove Radio Club had a great month in June. I’d like to thank everybody who helped with communications with the BikeMS-150, Grandma’s Marathon, and most importantly with Field Day.
The scores for Field Day have not been calculated, but in terms of what was important, it was a big win for us. Although the rain may have put a bit of a damper on participation Saturday afternoon, we had the Hennepin County Sherriff’s Communications Response Team (CRT), visitors from the Legion post and the public, and lots of people got on the air. But most importantly, Alaina Rooker from the Golden Valley Sun Post published a very positive article about us! It’s the lead article in this week’s paper: https://www.hometownsource.com/sun_post/
I would like to specifically thank some key players in field day. Roy Wood’s technical design of the antenna system worked great, despite a couple failed antennas. Carolyn Maristany kept people on track. Tim Arimond was also key in getting everything working. Ruth and Jim Claseman provided great food for breakfast, dinner, and two lunches. Pete Hall and Erik Westgard provided trailers for us to mount antennas on, Pat Gearty and Dave Johnson brought their campers for operating stations. Tear-down was amazing, it took us only about an hour, there was a lot of great teamwork.
Gordy Hanson and the VE team are taking a well-needed break from online license testing. We’ve tested over 350 candidates online since the start of Covid! We’ll get back to it in September at a reduced pace.
In July, we have a couple events to volunteer for. July 17th is an easy one, the Jim Deane Memorial Rice Lake Classic Run. This is a 3.7 mile run around Rice Lake, you’ll be home by lunchtime. We are the eyes on the course. Contact Phil Peterson, KC0OID, phipetsn@usfamily.net, to volunteer. The first 12 people get a t-shirt.
Also in July is the BikeMS Ride Across MN, AKA “TRAM”. This is a two-day event, July 23rd and 24th, with setup on the 22nd, and takes place around Austin MN. Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/2021ramroutesupport
Coming up: the Antique Car Run on Aug 14th, Ojibway Forest Rally Aug 27th and 28th, the Osseo Lions Parade on Sept 11th, and the Twin Cities Marathon on Oct 3rd.
