It is time to start thinking about our elections for Board of Directors in September. If you love Maple Grove Radio Club and want to help us continue to grow and improve, this is your chance to take a bigger part. We have term limits, so 2 board members are not eligible for re-election. We have term limits because it is always good to have new ideas coming into the board. We do not want to get set in our ways, especially in these challenging times. The biggest impediment to improvement is “that’s the way we’ve always done it.” So even if you’re new to amateur radio, we want your ideas and welcome you on the board.
We are continuing to host online amateur radio exam sessions. A lot of groups are joining in this, and the backlog of testing has fallen off considerably. We don’t feel as much pressure to expand our efforts, but we will continue to do it as a service to the Dakota Division. On a personal note, I really enjoy meeting people from around the country and welcoming them to the Amateur Radio community. We even tested one guy who is working in Afghanistan!
The world is still on hold while we wait for CoViD-19 to pass, and Amateur Radio is no different. Minnesota is doing pretty good at holding it back, in comparison to a lot of other states. This is no time to be complacent, we need to continue to be careful to keep it that way. I think it’s going to be awhile before we can get together in person. I miss all of you, but I would rather we stay safe.
