This is my last newsletter message in my term as President of MGRC. It has been an honor and a privilege serving as your leader for the past 5 years, but I’ve reached our term limit as a board member. The board has elected Zach Whitney, K0ZTW, as your new President. I hope you give him as much respect and cooperation as you’ve given me. The board has also elected Stephen Cullen, KF0AED, as Vice President.
The club had some challenges while I was President, but we overcame them. The first big one was losing our relationship with the Maple Grove fire department. I’m proud of how the club just shook it off and moved on to club meetings at the Life Assembly Church.
Then Covid hit. We made the transition to meeting on Zoom, including teaching classes and doing online testing. We had to skip Midwinter Madness a couple times, and that was painful, but we’re back on track with those. We continued with online classes and testing because it’s more convenient and we get better attendance.
We then started our relationship with the Chester Bird American Legion post, and TALARC.
Our next big challenge is going to be building a shack. I think it was a good decision to forgo an office trailer at this time. I think next spring we should make sure we have a plan ready to jump on the next good opportunity. This could be a trailer we store on the legion property, or a new building that the legion builds.
Whatever the future brings, I’m sure the club is going to continue to thrive. Thank you for your support.
