Thank you volunteers who helped at the Jim Deane Memorial Rice Lake Classic Run. Our help was noticed and appreciated, and we’ve already been asked back for next year. Good job, everybody!
Several of us also went down to Austin, MN to help with the BikeMS Ride Across MN. We had people in net control, SAGs, rest stops, and comm support. They couldn’t do these rides without us. The director of the ride heard from a lot of public officials that the BikeMS safety team people are always friendly and professional. That’s great to hear. Not only is this great practice for our communications skills, getting noticed like this helps the reputation of amateur radio.
Next month, we have a couple events. On Aug 14th, we have the Antique Car Run. This is a drive of early 1900’s era cars from New London to New Brighton, with a stop in Buffalo for lunch. These old cars are not particularly reliable, so it’s good to have modern cars with ham radios along to call in the tow truck. Contact Terry, Zach, or Stu if you’d like to help.
If faster cars are more to your liking, many of us help with the Ojibwe Forest Rally on August 27th-28th. We don’t get to drive along, but cell phones don’t work very well in the hills and woods of Northern MN, so they need hams to keep an eye on the course.
The board is considering when we can start meeting in person. When we do, it will be at the Chester Bird Post of the American Legion, at 200 Lilac Dr in Golden Valley, where we held Field Day. It might be the September meeting, but more likely October. We will also make sure people can still attend by zoom. One caveat- the Sons of the American Legion meets at 6:30pm, so we won’t be able to start our meeting until 7:30pm. I hope to see you there!
