Hello Everyone
As the Minnesota humidity finally gives way to crisp autumn air across the Twin Cities, our amateur radio calendar shifts into high gear. September is a fantastic time for the Maple Grove Radio Club. Summer vacations and the busiest outdoor public service seasons are winding down, and it is time to pivot back to our regular meetings, active on-the-air projects, and heavy radio operating.
First, September is National Preparedness Month. Our organization has deep roots in public service dating back to our days in Civil Defense, and providing assistance to public safety, hospitals, and local community events remains core to who we are. Please take some time this month to go through your gear. Check your portable setups, test your emergency power and backup batteries, and verify your equipment is ready to go. When severe weather or local emergencies strike the northwest suburbs, our community counts on us. If you want to check out training or brush up on your skills, explore the ARRL Public Service guidelines or review our club’s educational resources.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at our next monthly meeting on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the Chester Bird Post of the American Legion in Golden Valley. While we will still be streaming via Zoom for those who can’t make the drive, you definitely want to try to be there in person this month: we will be giving away a radio to one of the members who is physically present that night! You must be there in person to win, so make sure to clear your schedule and join us at Chester Bird.
